Symptoms of APD

Children and adults with APD may exhibit a few or several of these behaviours and characteristics.

-Sensitivity to loud sounds

-Distracted by surrounding noise

-Difficulty hearing with background noise present

-Does not localize to sound

-Appears to be confused in noisy places

-Does not react to own name in noisy places

-Poor musical abilities

-Doesn't follow the flow of conversation

-Frequently asks for repetition

-Prefers solitary activities

-Tires easily

-Poor language and reading skills

-Poorer than expected academic performance

-Dislikes school

-Difficulty understanding the meaning of words

-Difficulty following multi-step directions

-Difficulty expressing ideas

-Forgetful

-Short attention span

-Lacks self-confidence

-Inappropriate social behaviour

-Disruptive, sometimes rowdy behaviour
